HON Board Meeting

Our Fall board meeting was held at the Texas Baptist Men facility in Dallas Texas. It is impressive to see all that TBM is involved with, including helping HON to pack and ship our containers.

Our board heard reports from Fred and Mary Kay Posey regarding the celebration in Eku and Ogbomoso at the arrival of our containers in July. A letter of appreciation was also presented from Mr. Burster Iyere, Administrative manager of Ogbomoso Hospital, expressing his thanks for the recent shipment of medical supplies and equipment to the Baptist Medical Centers at

Ogbomoso, Eku and Shaki. We also heard a presentations from Rick Klein of Cure International and from Shirley Shofner who presented a letter and a video from Global Resource Services.
Our board approved undertaking a partnership with Global Resource Services (to help deliver needed medical supplies to North Korea) and Cure International (to help obtain and deliver needed medical equipment to their hospitals overseas). The container to North Korea will hopefully be shipped by the end of the year. We will be contacting our supporting hospitals in an effort to procure the required equipment for Cure.

On July 10, 2007, Ben McKibbens wrote to HON board members and supporting hospitals, "This past weekend Fred and Mary Kay Posey called twice from Nigeria (Once from Eku, then Ogbomoso), while witnessing the unloading of our equipment and supplies at the Baptist hospitals. They reported all items were received and in good order. Needless to say, they were ecstatic!!!!! --And if you know Mary Kay, she brings a whole new meaning to that word!........ Thanks again for all your support and participation." After months of redtape the containers were finally released and delivered to the hospitals at Eku and Ogbomoso. We hope to have pictures coming soon to show the equipment in place and being used.

Along with regular business, we received reports from Rick DeFoore on his work with Cure International in Afganistan and from Dr. Solomon A. Generator for Managua Hospital

Through Don Sewell at the BGCT, we were made aware of the need for a new 800kW generator to replace the current system that is underpowered and aging at the Managua, Nicaragua Baptist Hospital. The BGCT helped in locating a unit and through the BGCT, HON contributed $2500 in February 2007 toward the expenses of shipping the generator. We received a very nice letter from Dr. Sara Mayrena, the director of the hospital, saying that the generator had arrived and would be installed shortly. She thanked all of us who played a part in making this possible.

Word on the Nigerian Shipment

Good news! The Nigerian containers will be released soon from the port and be delivered to the hospitals. The shipments have been held by the customs officials in the port for several weeks. Well-worded letters from Charles Wade and Keith Bruce started the ball rolling, and the equipment and supplies were soon thereafter released to their destinations.
A ground team of Mary Kay and Fred Posey, Dr. Clint Miner, and others are in Nigeria to help in the delivery and installation of the equipment and supplies. We hope to have a complete report and pictures once the team returns to the US.

On its way!

Thanks to the astounding support of our donors, HON is pleased to report that we were able to send more than we ever anticipated to three Christian medical centers in Nigeria: Ogbomoso, Eku, and Shakie. Two large containers were recently filled to capacity in Dallas and transported to Houston for shipping November 3.

Shirley Shofner, Mary Kay and Fred Posey, and Leo Smith's team of Texas Baptist Men are also to be commended for their many hours of dedication to this task. Also, our HON executive director, Ben McKibbens, and his wife Loren traveled to Dallas to help in the final process of packing and crating. Numerous hard to obtain items came in right at the last minute including three anesthesia machines, two desktop and two laptop computers. All items were well protected with various types of padding, crated, placed on pallets, and secured before being placed in the containers.

The much needed equipment and supplies will be delivered to the Baptist medical center in Ogbomoso, the Eku Baptist Hospital, and the Shakie Baptist Clinic. HON is most appreciative for so many participants sharing their time, energies, and assets. The attached photos can assist in demonstrating the fruitfulness of your participation.

Also, many thanks to Texas Baptist Men who have taken the responsibility of packing all the equipment and supplies and then loading the shipping container.
